Secrets of the Heart by Darlene Rodriguez
I love a good billionaire romance and this had the potential to be the a great one. But it ended up being a just a good one. If you are looking for quick fun read that has some of our favorites troupes... this is it. But if you are looking for a good back story... this might not be the book for you.
Secrets of the Heart presents a compelling but at times boring narrative centered on Desmond, a character who has made significant sacrifices for his daughter, Emilia. The story introduces Josie, Emilia's nanny, whose past connection as the ex-girlfriend of Desmond's brother, Colton, adds a layer of complexity. Colton serves as a strong antagonist, driven by a desire for the family legacy, even resorting to actions that threaten Emilia's well-being.
A standout character is Ghrams, the enigmatic keeper of the family's secrets, whose presence is both intriguing and central to the plot. While the narrative is engaging, the novel could benefit from more extensive background information, particularly concerning characters like Ghrams, to provide deeper understanding. The contrasting settings—the grandeur of the mansion versus Desmond and Josie's more modest residences—effectively enhance the story's atmosphere. Ultimately, Secrets of the Heart possesses strong potential for expansion into a captivating series.
